A number of COVID-19 measures will be relaxed from December 1
A raft of COVID-19 public health measures are set to be repealed as the NSW Premier urged businesses to bring their employees back into the workplace.
Gladys Berejiklian announced the easing of restrictions from December 1 which will see groups of up to 50 people allowed to gather in a public space.
The public health order that required employers to allow their employees to work from home will also be removed from December 14.
Announcing the changes during this morning’s press conference, Berejiklian said: “Hopefully businesses and other organisations can consider having more people in the workplace in a COVID-safe way.”
Up to 50 people will be allowed to gather in public spaces and at private residences, as long as they are outdoors. For indoor gatherings, the number remains at 30.
The relaxation of the rules come after 18 days without any locally acquired infections in NSW.
It’s hoped employers will feel increased confidence in bringing their staff back into the workplace in the new year, giving the local economy a boost in places like Sydney’s CBD.
Return to work strategy has been at the forefront for HR leaders in recent weeks as the number of new infections in NSW and across Australia remain low.
But health minister Brad Hazzard warned people needed to remain vigilant – particularly in the case of public transport.
He said repealing the work-from-home order would see an increase in the number of people using public transport during peak times and urged all commuters to wear face coverings.
Today’s announcements coincide with the QLD Premier’s decision to reopening the border to Greater Sydney and Victoria from December 1.
