'Career Comeback Programme': CBA expands initiative to help employees return to work

The Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA) has announced the expansion of its Career Comeback Programme for 2025, with more opportunities available for professionals seeking to re-enter the workforce after a career break.

The programme, now in its fifth year, is designed to support individuals who have been out of the workforce for at least two years, helping them transition back into mid- to senior-level roles.

For 2025, the CBA revealed that it is more than doubling the size of the programme, offering positions across various departments, including business operations, product management, institutional banking coverage, markets, and project management.

This year's expansion also includes roles in the Group's Chief Operations Office (COO), alongside its Institutional Banking & Markets (IB&M) division.

"We know a team that is diverse in skills, experiences, and perspectives is stronger and more capable and brings greater value to our clients," said Andrew Hinchliff, Group Executive of IB&M at CBA, in a statement.

"I'm proud to see our Career Comeback initiative expand to Group COO and support even more experienced professionals to return to a rewarding career in banking, markets, and operations."

What's under the Career Comeback Programme?

The Career Comeback Programme provides participants with a paid, 12-week placement that includes a comprehensive induction, coaching, and technology upskilling.

Applications for the 2025 Career Comeback Programme are now open and will close on November 1, according to the CBA.

Successful candidates will begin their placements in March 2025. Those who successfully complete the programme may also have the opportunity to transition into permanent roles with the institutional bank or the chief operations office.

"Our people are our point of differentiation and are core to our strategy and our success," said Sinead Taylor, Chief Operations Officer at CBA, in a statement.

"With the expansion of Career Comeback across COO, I hope to empower future leaders to consider a career in CBA where they can make a real difference for our customers."
