Stats from the ABS show unemployment at 4.1%
The rate of unemployment has risen slightly across Australia in March, according to data released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
The seasonally adjusted rate now sits at 4.1% with an increase of unemployed people of 1,500 – a total now sitting at 614,600 nationally.
Sean Crick, ABS head of labour statistics, said, “With employment increasing by 32,000 people and the number of unemployed increasing by 3,000 people, the unemployment rate rose slightly to 4.1 per cent for March.”
Employment has grown by 308,000 people, or 2.2 per cent, over the last 12 months – seeing it now sit at over 14,500,000. This annual growth rate is slightly higher than the 20-year pre-pandemic average of 2.0 per cent, the ABS stats suggest.
“The employment-to-population ratio remained at 64.1 per cent in March, while the participation rate increased slightly to 66.8 per cent,” Mr Crick said.
It says full-time employment increased by 15,000 people in March, and part-time employment rose by 17,200, in seasonally adjusted terms.
