Trend expected to continue amid tight labour market, report says
The number of job postings in Australia that are transparent about pay information went up in 2024, and is likely to increase further amid a tight labour market.
Indeed's 2025 Jobs and Hiring Trends Report revealed that 37% of Australian job postings were transparent about pay in 2024, higher than the 35% recorded a year prior.
"A tight labour market has likely contributed to rising pay transparency, with some employers using pay information to stand out from their peers in a competitive job market," the report read.
By region, pay transparency in job postings increased in most Australian states, but transparency rates varied across locations, according to the report.
Among the regions with the biggest improvements in pay transparency are Western Australia and South Australia. New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory, on the other hand, logged a slight decrease.
By industry, pay transparency in job postings was more prevalent in the personal care and home health industry, where almost 70% showed pay information. Other industries showed:
According to Indeed, labour market conditions will determine whether pay transparency in job postings will continue increasing this year.
"If the job market remains tight, with talent hard to find, pay transparency may increase further this year," the report read.
Pay transparency is a rising trend across the world amid regulatory requirements, such as in the European Union, in an effort to curb gender pay gaps and combat pay discrimination in workplaces.
In Australia, the government previously introduced reforms to eliminate pay secrecy clauses in contracts, awards, and agreements allowing for more conversations about pay, as well as terms and conditions of employment that affect pay outcomes.
