WorkCover NSW has announced a new industry partnership with Restaurant and Catering NSW in an effort to reduce injuries that occur at that state's 2500 restaurants.
Minister for Finance Michael Daley this week said there were 2426 employment injuries in cafes and restaurants in NSW in 2007-08, which cost the Workers' Compensation Scheme and employers $12.6 million.
“Sprains, strains and open wounds which involved fingers, hands and lower backw were among the most common injuries reported,” Daley said.
Restaurant and Catering NSW President Ian Martin noted that the industry had a high proportion of young workers.
