HR Zone is a generalist HR site with a collection of assorted HR articles and links. There is no clear information on who owns or set up the site, which gives the impression that its virtual life began and is maintained as a hobby with some marketing partnership pitches throw in.
The site is divided into a number of sections such as HR basics, hiring, firing, expert articles, web reviews, links and newsletters. Much of HR Zone is outdated and of little use to the Australian HR professional; however, some insights can be garnered from articles such as “HR strategies for hard times”, “Executive stock options down the drain”, “Payoffs in employee satisfaction”, and “Universal predictors of employee success”. While these are good topics, the downside is that these are largely theoretical and contain few references about how to put them into practice.
Unfortunately the ‘what’s new’ section contains some broken links (a sign that the site isn’t all that well maintained) and other resources just seem to be gathering cyber cobwebs. A page which purports to list the consultants who work on HR Zone includes a few web designers, and while they did a good job on their own rather impressive sites, the job they did on HR Zone was less remarkable. Throw in some tardy banner ads, and HR Zone is definitely a no-go zone.
