Here's a hint - it's not all about the money
An effective reward and recognition program inspires accelerated performance while providing employees with a positive, consistent and motivational experience.
At the upcoming HR Summit Melbourne, Natalie Thomson, HRD, Australia & NZ Midway Division, Merlin Entertainments, will be speaking on the topic of reward and recognition.
In particular, she will be focusing on finding the right balance between long- and short-term incentives and educating managers about reward and recognition programs through recognition toolkits.
Thomson, who was one of last year’s finalists for HR director of the year, told HRD that technology has greatly impacted her role over the past few years.
“Technology really forces us to have a think about how we approach our roles and change the way we approach our roles,” said Thomson.
According to Thomson, one of the age–old challenges in HR for any business is communication and its relationship to technology.
“I see a lot of good practices out there, but I’m yet to find a business who has really nailed communication with their team members,” she said.
“Technology, I believe, has assisted us in this space and will continue to assist in this space.
“However, as technology becomes stronger, team members’ expectations around how we communicate also grows.”
Other speakers at the HR Summit include Michael Kim, head of HR APAC Spotify, and Maria Voukenas, head, human resources, Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute.
Kim will be speaking on the topic of How Spotify's people strategy shaped a unique culture that engages, inspires & drives innovation - while Voukenas will discuss Embarking on HR digital transformation journey and organisational change.
