What will be the biggest challenge for HR professionals this year?

Rise of AI: Opportunities, risks for workplaces continue

The rise of artificial intelligence in workplaces is expected to extend this year, bringing along with it escalating risks and opportunities for businesses.

Throughout the past year, various researchers have underscored that AI provides both employers and employees with various benefits, such as time-saving advantages and higher productivity rates.

For HR professionals, AI-driven models can handle routine administrative tasks, allowing them to focus on more impactful work.

AI-driven analytics also allow HR to gain deep insights into workforce trends, allowing them to improve recruitment, training, and retention strategies.

Risks surrounding AI

But there are also concerns associated with AI, particularly its impact on job security and human connections in the workplace.

Nick Southcombe, chief executive officer of Frontier Software, noted that the advancements in data visualisation and AI give employers the opportunity to unlock real insights around the workforce.

"The challenge is to ensure that we are using these tools to support, not replace, the human connections that are critical in our workplaces," Southcombe said in an exclusive HRD feature.

According to the report, organisations will need to re-evaluate their understanding of interpersonal skills and other traditionally "human" skills.

"Human qualities like emotional intelligence, creativity, and adaptability will continue to play a crucial role, even as technical skills become more important," the report states.

As AI use continues to rise in workplaces, the challenge for HR professionals now will be to "balance the opportunities technology brings with a commitment to enhancing the human experience."
