A union has described the move as 'draconian' and 'disturbing'
AMP Limited have denied reports they are planning on carrying out continuous video surveillance on all workers, no matter where they are working, following contract changes.
As reported in The Australian, The Finance Sector Union (FSU) state the proposed contract changes would also allow AMP to require workers to undergo a medical examination by a doctor chosen by the firm.
Approximately 200 members of staff were issues new contract earlier this week (17 March 2025), with a requirement to sign and return them within a week, to which the Union say workers “should not sign.”
The Finance Sector Union’s (FSU) National Assistant Secretary, Nicole McPherson describes the move as “draconian” and “disturbing”.
“It is shocking that any employer would propose the right to video monitor its workers in their own homes, force them to undergo a medical examination by the employer’s doctor of choice and give up their right to privacy of medical information,” the statement released on their website reads.
“Because AMP refuses to bargain for a new Enterprise Agreement, important rights are in policy, meaning AMP can remove or change things at any time. For example, the new contract does not contain details of any guaranteed pay increase, leave or redundancy entitlements.”
“AMP needs to come to the table and urgently negotiate an Enterprise Agreement which would give its workers rights and protection,” McPherson said.
A spokesperson for AMP said, “AMP’s updated employee contracts were drafted and reviewed by an external law firm, who verified that all of the contract clauses align with common industry practice used by many other organisations, and comply with current legal requirements. To confirm, AMP is not and will not conduct camera surveillance on employees when they work from home.”
