'I'd love to let you know that Atlassian is hiring, as are many other companies that offer flexibility in where you work'
A work futurist at Atlassian has told employees who are negatively impacted by return-to-office (RTO) policies that there are hiring organisations out there that are still offering flexibility.
Of course, this includes Atlassian - whose co-founder has long been against the push for office return.
Dominic Price, work futurist at Atlassian, said they have 304 roles open around the world.
"So, if you're somewhere and there's been a mandate that demonstrably changes your life (for the worse), then I'd love to let you know that Atlassian is hiring. As are many other companies that offer flexibility in where you work," Price said in a LinkedIn post.
Atlassian units that have vacancies include Sales, Marketing, Engineering, Product Management, Design, Program Management, Support, Security, Finance, Legal, HR, among others, according to Price.
"We operate in time zones, so some jobs require you to be within a certain time zone of your colleagues, but you can get the idea from our site," he said.
"We do have offices too for those that have a preference, and you can see our hubs in Sydney, SF, Austin, Poland, Holland, India, Germany, France, UK, Japan etc... all listed."
Price's invitation comes after a growing number of employers in Australia and across the world, including Tabcorp and Amazon, have begun announcing RTO policies.
In Amazon, the mandate has pushed 73% of employees in the United States to consider looking for a new job.
According to Price, he does not plan on sending hate to organisations that mandate RTO.
"If that's the employee value proposition that they think works for the majority of their people, stakeholders, customers, and shareholders, then that's their job as a leader," Price said in the LinkedIn post. "As long as they communicate with transparency, and they are fair to their people, then I'm OK."
But he also pointed out how he was able to "thrive at work and life" thanks to the flexibility granted to him.
"I appreciate… that I get to achieve my goals, and be a good dad. That I can knock a project out of the park, and be home for dinner," he said.
Atlassian's co-founder, Scott Farquhar, has long slammed other executives who continue to push for office return.
In 2022, Farquhar, who was the Atlassian CEO at the time, called out Elon Musk's order to bring Tesla employees on-site full time.
"News from [Elon Musk] & [Tesla] today feels like something out of the 1950s: 'Everyone at Tesla is required to spend a minimum of 40 hours in the office per week,'" Farquhar previously said.
Atlassian implements a Team Anywhere policy that allows employees to choose where and how they want to work, according to the former CEO.
"Why? This is the future of how we will work. Highly distributed, highly flexible. Yes, right now, it's not perfect, but we have to experiment to get it right."
