Sixty-seven per cent of Australians believe their job gives them a sense of identity, according to a report released by research firm Grey. It also found that 78 per cent of Australians are satisfied with their jobs, 86 per cent of workers claim to be reliable, but only 56 per cent claim to bring innovation and new ideas to their job. The report, which took in almost 700 Australians, also found that the average working week is 43.83 hours full-time and 21.85 hours part-time.
How to spot an employee on the job hunt
Employees who are thinking of leaving nearly always provide hints which a savvy employer should be able to detect, according to Nicole Gorton, NSW director of Robert Half. “Early warning signs provide scope to remedy the situation if necessary, or put you in good stead to begin the hunt for a new replacement to ensure the transition passes smoothly.” Five obvious signs of an employee on the job hunt include: a noticeable change in attitude; less communication; longer lunch breaks and frequent absences; more personal phone calls; and a change in dress.
Taleo to acquire Vurv
Talent management solutions firm Taleo recently announced the acquisition of talent management software provider Vurv Technology. In a deal worth approximately US$128.8 million ($136 million) in cash and stock, the combined company will serve more than 3400 customers globally, including 48 of the Fortune 100, and more than 2800 small and medium-sized businesses. “This announcement marks an inflection point for talent management, making it easier for customers to realize the full benefits of unified talent management applications,” said Michael Gregoire, president and CEO of Taleo.
