Walmart employee quits job in dramatic fashion

“Attention all shoppers, associates, and management!” That wouldn’t normally be how people begin their notice of resignation.

But for a 17-year-old former Walmart employee in Grande Prairie, Alberta, social media – and the store’s intercom – became a vehicle for airing his grievance.

“I would like to say to all of you today that nobody should work here – ever,” Jackson Racicot continued on Walmart’s public address system while recording the incident and posting it on Facebook. The clip has since gone viral.

“Our managers will make promises and never keep them and, not only that, they will preach to us about how they care about their employees, but about a month ago, my boss, assistant manager Cora, called ‘em a waste of time, and management did nothing to help.”

The allegation about being called a “waste of time” may have triggered Racicot to publicly criticise management over the intercom after he was called such, he said.

Racicot claimed he made multiple requests to remain in one department as opposed to being assigned to a new one every day. But his requests were denied, he told The Star.

The Generation Z worker has garnered both support and criticism online. But his farewell, he believes, sheds light on labour issues in his sector.

“Management will also try to save money every step of the way, including cutting benefits of a full-time associate down to [a] part-time [worker’s] even though he worked 40-plus hours a week.”

“I've been a loyal employee here for over a year and a half, and I'm sick of all the bull----,” he said before ending with a string of expletives.

Walmart has not yet issued a statement in response to Racicot’s allegations.
