The person has been 'removed from their duties'
Law enforcement officials in Australia have launched an investigation against a woman who reportedly posed as a doctor at a hospital there for eight months. A report from 7news said the woman, 27, had been working at the Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital since January this year until she was discovered on Monday.
She allegedly faked her documents so she can get hired, according to the report, and was only discovered after she failed to present some paperwork.
A spokesperson from the hospital did not confirm the position the employee was faking, but said in a statement that the worker was not accredited with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (AHPRA).
"Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital discovered on Monday an employee was not registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority," said the hospital's spokesman in a statement.
The spokesman added that the employee was "immediately removed from their duties" and the case was now referred to the police for investigation - who confirmed to The Guardian that a probe has been launched.
"Police have commenced an investigation," confirmed a spokesman from the Bankstown Police Area Command.
Meanwhile, the hospital has also launched an internal probe over the incident, and also reported the case to AHPRA.
"The hospital is also conducting an internal investigation, and has reported the matter to AHPRA," the hospital statement also read.
The said employee could face several offenses, including fraud. No charges, however, have been filed yet.
