How would you sum up HR professionals in three words?
HR Professionals are ‘talent architects’ – that is, they anticipate, design and enable the execution of talent strategies.

What is the best advice you’ve ever been given?
Don't over-engineer it!

What are some of the biggest challenges HR deals with?
Developing talent strategies to enable career agility, engaging leadership and designing work practices that provides for access to the total talent pool.

How do you see the role of HR changing in the future?
There will be continued drive to simplify organisational people practices, work models and talent sources.  HR Professionals will have a critical role in ensuring the talent strategy aligns with the business strategy. There will be a significant shift from being internally focussed and program driven, to being more focused on the external environment. In particular, using data and business insights to drive the development and execution of talent strategies. HR professionals will become the organisation’s ‘talent economists,’ and will need to develop strategies that anticipate talent needs, understand talent sources and develop ‘one size-fits-one’ strategies. These strategies will support the organisation’s unique business drivers and evolving needs, together with a focus on how to meet the needs and aspirations of individuals.

What’s your favoured style of coffee?
Over summer, I have taken a liking to a double macchiato.

If you could invite three people to dinner, dead or alive, and excluding family and friends, who would they be and why?
Andrew McConnell  (to understand his business growth insights – how he has been so successful in such diverse districts of Melbourne, to cook with us and to bring some lobster rolls!), Michelle Obama (to hear first-hand what life as the First Lady is like: her strategies and plans for driving change, managing competing priorities, engaging many varied stakeholders, and why Mr Obama wanted the job - and how he got the job), Leonardo DaVinci  (an incredible innovator from a very different world and time).
