Average time to hire for most jobseekers 11 weeks: report

Which Canadian companies are the fastest when hiring?

Jumping from one job to another does not happen in a blink of an eye for employees.

Overall, it takes 11 weeks – on average – for a worker to go from applying for a job to securing employment, reports Indeed.

“If you’re seeking a new job, a nearly-three-month timeline can be discouraging,” says Lisa Lagace, editor of Indeed Canada’s Career Guide.

Nearly six in 10 (57%) jobseekers say it will be difficult to find a job in the next six months, according to a previous Express Employment Professionals report.

And even graduates with advanced degrees struggle to find jobs in Quebec, according to another report.

However, some Canadian employers handle recruitment more efficiently.

Here are the ones that hire faster than the rest, according to Indeed. The results reflect each employer’s relative time to hire (from posting to hired signal) versus other Canadian employers in the top 200 rank by number of job postings on Indeed, measured between April through June 2024.

Lagace notes that given the employers on the list, workers with the following skills might be a good fit for these companies:

  • Customer Service Skills: Strong customer service skills are required for retail, food service, and consumer service companies.
  • Communication Skills: Effective communication skills are crucial across all these industries in order to effectively deal with customers, coordinate with team members, or manage logistics.
  • Flexibility and Adaptability: Fast-paced environments like retail, food service, and logistics require employees who can quickly adapt and change depending on the demands of the situation.
  • Technical Skills: Certain companies may require technical skills, such as knowledge of logistics software or security protocols.
  • Physical Stamina: Being able to handle long hours on your feet can be required for jobs in food service, crop production, and some aspects of logistics and security due to the physical nature of the work.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Customer service and security roles often require quick and effective problem-solving abilities.
