Layoffs seek to 'simplify… still too complex' organisational structure

Indeed to lay off about 1,000 employees

Job recruitment platform Indeed is laying off about 1,000 employees in a bid to "simplify" the organisation.

Indeed has more than 13,000 global employees, as per its website, and the layoffs will affect eight per cent of them.

Chris Hyams, Indeed CEO, told employees that the reductions will not be across the board.

"They are mostly concentrated in the US and are more focused on R&D and some Go-to-Market teams," he told employees in the message.

According to Hyams, they are "significantly restructuring" the research and development team and reducing layers of management there.

"We are also restructuring and aligning some Go-to-Market teams and will be eliminating most of the Sales and CS roles in Foster City, California," the CEO added.

'Too complex' structure

Hyams attributed the layoffs to the organisation's "still too complex" structure, stating too many organisational layers are slowing down decision-making.

"We are taking this action because we need to simplify our organisation to make it easier and faster for us to make decisions and help us to more effectively grow revenue and hires," he said.

"As difficult as these changes are, our new structure will help us to simplify and work more effectively as one team, reignite growth in revenue, and drive toward our 2030 goal to help 100 million people get jobs."

Indeed also laid off 2,200 positions in 2023 in a bid to cut costs.
