HR generalist among most in-demand jobs in Canada: report

The human resources (HR) generalist role is among the most sought-after jobs in Canada this year, according to a recent report.

The role ranks 13th in Randstad’s top 15 list.

“HR generalists play a pivotal role in strengthening employee relations and championing organizational growth. In this role, you’ll shape positive workplace experiences by managing employee relations, resolving conflicts, and overseeing performance management,” says Randstad.

“In addition, you’ll also manage recruitment, develop training programs, and implement robust compensation and benefits strategies.”

The talent company also notes that the HR generalist position brings positives in the present and the future.

“With a competitive annual salary ranging from $71,000 to $95,000, this role is a gateway to leadership positions like HR Director or Vice President.”

To compile the list, Randstad analyzed job postings on digital platforms in 2024 and compared them to previous years to identify key trends. The selection of the top 15 jobs for 2025 was based on factors such as demand growth, evolving skill requirements, and industry relevance. They also considered expected growth in key industries, which influence job opportunities for the coming year

The HR function, overall, has a vital role in modern businesses, according to a previous report. HR also has a strategic role to play with the rise of artificial intelligence (AI), according to Phillip Brown, director of the Digital Futures of Work Research Programme and distinguished research professor at Cardiff University.

Which job has the highest demand in Canada?

Meanwhile, administrative assistant is once again the most in-demand job in Canada, according to Randstad.

“Often the first point of contact, administrative assistants carry significant responsibilities in supporting leadership with essential operational duties. From managing busy communication lines to executing key organizational initiatives, they ensure seamless daily operations,” says the talent firm.

“In addition, this role offers an annual salary between $47,000 and $59,000 and cushions you with the stability and potential for career advancement. A high school diploma is typically required, but a bachelor’s degree or certifications make you the right fit for top-paying positions in this role.”
