What benefit do working parents value the most?

With the back-to-school season upon us, working parents in Canada face unique challenges balancing work and family life.

So how employers help? Two-thirds of working parents (66%) cite paid time off as their top priority when asked which benefit they value most.

Similarly, nearly seven in 10 working parents (67%) say the perk they value most is flexible work schedules, according to Robert Half’s survey of 1,751 Canadian workers, including 771 working parents, conducted in June 2024.

Maybe that’s because of workload issues.

Over a third (36%) of working parents say they are putting in longer hours this year compared to one year ago, finds Robert Half.

That’s seven points higher than the national worker average (29%).

The number of Canadians who are working from home most of the time continues to drop, according to Statistics Canada.

Flexible work is “the ultimate working parent solution,” says Kimberli Lowe-MacAuley of FlexJobs.

“As more companies strive to support their employees as a whole person, flexible work options are becoming even more prevalent. As a working parent, flexible schedules mean you’re better able to juggle it all.”
