'These policies reflect our focus on prioritizing the wellbeing of our people during the times when they need it most'
Canada Life is expanding its benefits offerings to workers by providing them with more opportunities to be with their family at pivotal life moments.
The insurance, retirement and investment services provider has announced new parental and family-friendly leave policies for employees based in the UK and the Isle of Man, effective from Jan. 1, 2025, reported Employee Benefits.
Under the new policy, employees will be eligible for 26 weeks of paid maternity leave or 16 weeks of paid paternity leave. These benefits will also apply to adoptive parents and those having children through surrogacy.
In addition, Canada Life staff undergoing fertility treatment, along with their partners, will be entitled to 10 additional days of paid leave per year.
“We care deeply about supporting our colleagues, not just at work but during the milestones and challenges they encounter throughout their lives,” said Lindsey Rix-Broom, chief executive at Canada Life UK. “These enhancements reinforce our efforts to build a workplace that focuses on the needs of our people, and align with our wider ambition to ensure our colleagues flourish at Canada Life while balancing work and family life.”
Among the biggest cities in Canada, those in Quebec hold the most positions in the top 10 when it comes to work-life balance, according to a previous report.
Canada Life is also providing paid time off for both parents in case they experience pregnancy loss, according to the report.
“Each individual will have a unique experience and journey, and we know that the interactions you have at work can be pivotal. We engaged closely with colleagues as part of this process to understand how Canada Life can support them, and these policies reflect our focus on prioritizing the wellbeing of our people during the times when they need it most,” Rix-Broom said, according to Protection Reporter.
The updated policies will be available to all employees from their first day in the role.
Previously, one employer provided workers with a Tinder Leave" benefit that they can use for going on dates.
