The prospective employers are looking for a butler who seems more like an international super spy than domestic staff
If you’re a hardworking, multilingual Virgo who lives in London and is willing to take a page from ‘Jeeves and Wooster’ on the art of being a butler, then have we got the job for you!
While that description might sound like a mouthful, it’s from an actual vacancy posted by a wealthy Russian family on Jobs in Childcare. The prospective employers are looking for a butler whose skill set makes the servant seem more like an international super spy than domestic staff.
The job ad calls for candidates who are practical, neat, proactive and productive and asks that they know how to care for children – a qualification that sounds reasonable given the fact that they would be serving an entire family.

They should also know a minimum of two languages (a working knowledge of Russian included) and be quick to solve problems in school, at a shop or at a salon “for the benefit of the family”.
Applicants should also be familiar with “modern places” and restaurants in London and the south of France and be able to accompany the family to these spots.
Sounds overwhelming? Things only start to get weirder and weirder from hereon.
The family – which supposedly loves PG Wodehouse’s novels and short stories – advises applicants to pay close attention to the beloved character Jeeves to know “what is expected from a butler”.
Being astrology enthusiasts, the employers are also only willing to hire candidates who are Sagittarius, Virgo, Aquarius, Capricorn or Leo.
The position offers €4,000 to €6,000 a month, or roughly US$4,500 to $6,700 monthly, to the person willing to go through hoops to make the family happy.
The butler will have to work from 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily, but these hours won’t necessarily be fixed.
