Apple joins other tech giants with first big wave of post-pandemic job cuts
Over 600 employees of tech giant Apple are seeing their jobs cut, according to reports, marking the company's first major post-pandemic layoffs.
The Associated Press (AP) reported last week that 614 Apple employees were notified in late March that they would be laid off effective May 27.
The employees come from eight offices in Santa Clara in California, AP reported, citing the tech giant's filings under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act.
The report referred to Apple's move as the "first big wave of post-pandemic job cuts" since the tech giant didn't lay off employees over the past two years despite other major tech firms doing so.
Apple's layoffs came after its executives warned in February that there may be job cuts as the tech giant scraps plans to build an electric car.
The company, which has 161,000 full-time equivalent employees, has yet to comment on the layoff reports.
It joins other major companies announcing layoffs this 2024, such as Amazon and Cisco, extending the years-long wave of post-pandemic job cuts across the world.
