Are you stuck in a rut? It’s easily done
Are you stuck in a rut? It’s easily done. The workdays begin to ebb into one another, career milestones pass you by and you’re left wondering what the next step should be.
Research from CV-Library and Course Library found that 80% of employees have experienced a career slump in their working lives, with 35% of them putting it down to a total lack of progression.
A further 41% of staff said they went on to change their job after going through this miasma of uncertainty, putting the hop down to feelings of boredom, a lack of motivation and a lack of enthusiasm.
“It’s clear from our findings that many employees…are hitting roadblocks in their careers,” explained Lee Biggins, co-founder of CV-Library. “Not only is this disheartening for the worker themselves, but it can also present problems for businesses when it comes to talent retention.”
One fifth of those asked said that they asked for a mentor within the workplace, demonstrating their desire to remain within their current job role, whilst 23% said they tried to take positive action to get out of the rut.
“Employees need to feel as if they are moving forward in their careers and this can only be achieved if organizations are offering the right opportunities and helping members of staff to expand their skill-sets, develop and grow alongside the business,” added Biggins.
