The fast-food chain has launched a virtual hiring tool using the popular messaging app
Young workers in Canada can now easily apply for a job at McDonald’s using the multimedia messaging app Snapchat.
McDonald’s Canada has announced plans to launch a “Snapplications” day, where millennial job candidates can send in their applications through the popular app.
All applicants have to do is to look for a unique lens on the messaging app that will allow them to record a 30-second video telling McDonald’s why they want to work for the company. They can then submit the video clip to the official hiring portal for McDonald’s Canada.
The Snapplications lens will become available on Snapchat on March 27.
“We wanted to offer a convenient and flexible application process to attract more young people through our one-day virtual hiring event,” said Stephanie Hardman, Chief People Officer at McDonald’s Canada. “From youth applying for their first jobs, to experienced candidates, Snapplications is a new and exciting way for people to kick-start a career at McDonald’s Canada.”
McDonald’s hopes to take advantage of Snapchat’s popularity among millennials to hire more members of this technologically savvy demographic.
“As a leader in the Quick-Service industry we know that technology is a critical driver of success,” said Lara Skripitsky, Chief Technology Officer at McDonald’s Canada.
The fast-food chain is one of the biggest employers of youth in Canada. As much as 83% of its 100,000-strong workforce in the country are millennials between the ages of 23 and 38.
