Care home worker in Saskatchewan faces charges for alleged sexual assaults

A former employee of a care home in Wilkie, Sask., has been charged with multiple offenses related to the alleged sexual assault of residents under her care.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) has confirmed that Jaclyn Elias, a 36-year-old resident of Wilkie, is facing accusations involving at least four adult residents at the facility.

According to RCMP reports, the alleged incidents occurred between January 2023 and February 2024. During this period, Elias is accused of sexually assaulting or threatening several residents.

The details surrounding the nature of these assaults remain under investigation. Elias faces charges including sexual assault, sexual assault with a weapon, assault, and uttering threats, says the RCMP.

A former head of human resources of the Canadian Forces went to trial for sexual assault — a verdict is expected within a couple of weeks, according to media reports.

Saskatchewan authorities have stated that Elias is no longer employed at the care home.

Elias made her first appearance in North Battleford provincial court on Monday, where she was formally charged. Her next court appearance is scheduled for September 2024.
