HRD's Hot List showcases outstanding HR leaders
The post-pandemic business landscape has seen a whole new set of challenges for HR teams across New Zealand. From financial pressures to global uncertainty and now a massive weather disaster, it has been a tumultuous time over the last year.
HRD’s Hot List recipients were outstanding in their field during this time, displaying innovative and agile ways of dealing with a myriad of challenges.
One of only four males to appear on the Hot List, Mark Lewis, head of people at Connetics, said, “I’m always questioning why things are done in a certain way, working with a team to explore how things could be done differently… I am always looking for new and innovative ways to tackle persistent and emerging problems.”

Also on the list, Griere Cox, workforce partner, consulting at PwC New Zealand, adds, “A lot of the last 12 months has really been around those questions of attraction and retention, and the employee-employer relationship changing.”
HRD’s Hot List recipients have used their skills, experience and resources to deal with those demands and successfully maintained a harmonious working environment. In a special report published by HRD, Hot List recipients discuss the attributes it takes to appear on the Hot List, what working in HR means to them and what drives the unrelenting desire to keep raising the bar for their profession.
Clear on what’s required to be a success is Nga Nguyen, head of HR at Schindler Lifts NZ. She describes how her way of working is impact-driven. “Whatever you do, if that makes people’s life easier, they will start to listen to you. Gaining a business mindset is as important as building a people mindset because supporting people isn’t enough. Supporting them to achieve results and go beyond the limit to reach their potential is.”
