SpaceX to transfer to Texas after ‘final straw’ of transgender law, says Musk

Elon Musk announced on Wednesday that SpaceX will be moving its headquarters to Texas.

Musk announced the transfer after California, where SpaceX is currently based, passed a new law related to transgender children in public schools.

The law, AB 1955, prohibits schools from informing parents about changes in their child's gender identification without the child's permission.

"This is the final straw," Musk said in reaction to the news. "Because of this law and the many others that preceded it, attacking both families and companies, SpaceX will now move its HQ from Hawthorne, California, to Starbase, Texas."

The move comes after Tesla, the automotive company led by Musk, also transferred to Texas from California.

Recruiting Musk's employees

Following SpaceX's transfer, various space startups have stepped forward in an attempt to recruit Musk's employees.

"We are hiring, and located in Seal Beach, CA," said AstroForge, an aerospace company, in response to Musk's announcement.

Stanislas Maximin, CEO of French rocket launch company Latitude, also opened his company's doors for interested applicants.

"For SpaceX employees misaligned with these values and looking to join an inclusive and highly ambitious rocket company in a great living city near Paris, my DMs are open," Maximin posted on LinkedIn, with a screenshot of Musk's announcement.

"We do small rockets of course, but also high-performance engines, full reusability, high launch rate; you'll clearly be able to show the world your skills."

The CEO promised to "take care" of everything, including relocating the employee, visas, healthcare, accommodation, finding their partners a job, as well as a finding a school for employees' children.

"A few have already taken the plunge, join them at Latitude!" Maximin said. "I'm personally offering 12 Champagne bottles for everyone that makes the move!"
