The new hires could be eligible for a sign on bonus of $1000
Amazon is set to hire 75,000 new employees across Canada and the US to meet growing customer demand. In a press statement, Amazon revealed their expansion plans – including offering new hires an average starting pay of $17 per hour and a sign on bonus of up to $1000.
“We look forward to hiring 75,000 associates across our fulfillment and transportation network,” added Alicia Boler Davis, VP of global customer fulfillment at Amazon. “Working at Amazon also comes with an unwavering commitment to safety, especially as we continue to navigate a global pandemic. In addition to the great pay and robust benefits available to new hires starting on their first day, we’re offering a $100 benefit to new hires who come to Amazon already vaccinated for COVID-19.”
The global COVID-19 pandemic saw interest in Amazon spike – with the company going on continuous hiring sprees over the past 12 months just to keep up with public demand. Amazon reiterated their commitment to employee health and wellbeing, rolling out on-site vaccinations for all front-line workers at several of their larger depots.
The news comes just months after Beth Galetti, Amazon’s SVP of people experience and technology, promised to continue increasing the representation of Black employees in the organization. The HR leader vowed to take a closer look at diversity in the ranks and implement authentic inclusion training.
“These goals represent the next step in Amazon’s diversity, equity, and inclusion journey, not the final destination,” added Galetti. “It is going to take time and consistent focus to get where we want to be. Additionally, these goals represent only a slice of Amazon’s ongoing DEI work, and they are complemented by goals in various businesses and geographies around the world.”
