The answer is by learning, upskilling and reskilling.

“We’ve started some reskilling programs in areas where we have high demand like data and analytics, risk and business banking. And so far, we’ve had 200 of our employees go through that program and 100 of them actually got jobs in the area they reskilled for”, said Sian Lewis, Group Executive Human Resources at Commonwealth Bank.

The term ‘soft skills’ was said to have originated in the military, to describe a skill that didn’t involve working with machinery. Now, a soft skill is one that is transferrable to any industry and not specific to one. Along with those mentioned above, soft skills can include leadership, problem solving and critical thinking.

Whether it be soft or hard-skill development, providing opportunities to learn is a primary focus at LinkedIn. Globally, 7.3 million learners watched the most popular LinkedIn Learning courses of the year (nearly double the audience from last year).
