Overall median hourly earnings from wages, salaries up by 6%
New Zealand's gender pay gap hit 8.2% in June 2024, according to the latest data from Stats NZ.
This is a decline from the 8.5% in June 2023 and 9.2% in June 2022.
"However, this was not a statistically significant change," Stats NZ said in a statement.
According to Stats NZ, the pay gap is based on the median hourly wage and salary earnings for men and women.
In the June 2024 quarter, the median hourly earnings for men reached $34.95, up by $1.95 (5.9%). For women, the median hourly earnings reached $32.08, up by $1.90 (6.3%).

Overall, median hourly earnings from wages and salaries increased by $1.91 (6%) to $33.56 in the year to the June 2024 quarter, according to Stats NZ.
Full-time median hourly earnings expanded 4.4% annually to reach $35.02. Part-time hourly earnings were up six per cent to reach $26.50.
In terms of median weekly income, wages and salaries went up by $70 (5.5%) to $1,343.
For men, median weekly earnings rose by $58, or 4.2%, to reach $1,458 in the year to the June 2024 quarter. For women, median weekly earnings went up by five per cent, or $57, to reach $1,197.
Median weekly income from all sources increased by $38 (4.2%) to $959, while government transfers increased by $21 (4.8%) to $453, according to Stats NZ.
