List of organisations embracing remote, hybrid, 'virtual-first' approach to work
A growing number of organisations are reversing their remote and hybrid work arrangements, calling workers back to the office more often, if not five days a week.
These include Dell, Grab, Tabcorp and, more recently, the Washington Post.
But there are still many employers across the world that are choosing to retain the benefit for their workforce, according to a report.
FlexJobs compiled a list of 20 organisations that have chosen to embrace permanent remote work. They include:
- Allstate: It is implementing hybrid and home-based work arrangements.
- Amgen: It is implementing a "virtual-first approach to work".
- Aquent: It is embracing a remote work arrangement, with a small percentage of office space dedicated for large meetings or special projects.
- Atlassian: It is enforcing a permanent work-from-home arrangement, which its former CEO has long advocated.
- AWeber Communications: It is implementing a remote-first team.
- Capita plc: It allows hybrid work, compressed hours, work from home, or in-office work where employees can choose to work "in the most flexible way possible".
- Cimpress: It is also a remote-first company.
- Coinbase: It also operates a "remote-first" work arrangement.
- HubSpot: It has a "Flex First" policy to give employees the autonomy to choose where to live in the country, while also allowing regular in-person gatherings.
- Okta: It implements a remote-first policy.
- Pinterest: It implements a flexible work model that allows employees to work wherever they want within their country or region, either at home, a Pinterest office, or another virtual location.
- Reddit: It gives employees the option to choose permanent remote work, with options for in-office work in a casual environment.
- Ryder: It has implemented remote and hybrid work arrangements for employees.
- SoFi - Social Finance: It allows employees and their managers to determine the best place for an individual to work from.
- Spotify: The company has a work-from-anywhere programme that allows teams to choose where to work, either at home, the office, or elsewhere.
- Square, Inc: It allows permanent remote work for employees.
- TaskRabbit: It has a "remote-first" policy for employees.
- Twilio: It also has a "remote-first" policy.
- Vista: It is also implementing a "remote-first" arrangement for staff.
The list of employers embracing remote and hybrid work arrangements comes as a report from earlier this year revealed that 74% of chief executive officers are not prioritising a full-time office return.
It comes as CEOs recognise how hybrid work arrangements are able to attract talent, improve employee engagement, as well as develop company culture.
Amazon calls for office return
Those organisations ordering employees back in the workplace has been met with the disapproval of their workforce. This is the case for Amazon, which recently ordered employees to get back onsite starting January 2025.
The move was met with strong dissatisfaction from employees, with a report saying some are eyeing new jobs because of the mandate.
Amazon defended its policy by stressing how on-site work allows for greater collaboration among teams, and how it can strengthen the company's culture.
