The Southern District Health Board has named the industry veteran who will fill its newly-created HR role.
The Southern District Health Board has confirmed the creation of a brand new HR role, naming industry veteran Michael Collins as the man for the job.
Originally from Southland, Collins will join SDHB on 5 September as the executive director of organisational development and performance.
“My focus will be on the quality of services, financial indicators and most importantly he tangata, our people,” said Collins. “It’s great to see the DHB has started the process of change by listening to their customers’ needs and establishing a strong culture for us to build from.”
Collins says his 16-year stretch at Otago Polytechnic – where he is currently the director of learning environment and service excellence and acting kaitohutohu – has prepared him for the new role.
“Otago Polytechnic is performing in all areas of quality, financial performance and work environment because of its skilful and dedicated staff supported by strong leadership,” he said. “I’m very optimistic, and looking forward to working with the executive team and staff to help make a positive impact within the DHB.”
SDHB chief executive Carole Heatly publicly welcomed Collins to the team, explaining the new role had been created to provide strategic leadership in developing organisational capability and performance.
“Mike brings a varied background from an organisation that has undergone successful transformation to a high-performing institution,” she said. “We look forward to him making a valuable contribution to Southern DHB.”
