Z Energy’s HR team continue to expand their award-winning initiative.
Since impressing the HRINZ judges with their ‘Sharing Everything about the Z Energy Values’ initiative Z’s HR team have turned their programme into a cornerstone of the company.
Z Energy’s Capability and Organisational Development GM, Huma Faruqui, says it is what makes the company distinctive.
“It’s so much part of our DNA. You can walk into any office and you can hear people talk about the values,” she said.
Since the awards, Z’s HR team have focused on expanding this initiative with embedding values across key people processes.
An online induction and portal was launched to help new employees embrace their values and the company’s.
“As soon as they sign the contract they have access to the portal. So before the first day they are drip-fed information to help them explore values and culture,” Faruqui said.
She adds it makes good commercial sense to focus on these core principals because of the “tonnes of evidence” of the benefits of doing so.
“If you focus on culture it’s a 19% uplift in performance as opposed to 2% with strategy,” she said.
Despite their success last year, Faruqui says they will not be entering into this year’s awards but she encouraged others to put themselves forward.
She was reluctant at first to put her team forward for the award last year but was encouraged by the large amount of positive feedback they had received.
“It was great to get formally recognised for what we did,” Faruqui said.
It also gave the company an opportunity to celebrate and share the award with the whole company.
“Any recognition is a reflection of those in the company,” she said.
Her tip for those entering is to ensure they can demonstrate how their initiative is working.
Entries for the HRINZ HR Awards close September 5, at 5pm, and the presentation dinner will be held November 21.
