November 2024 sees 0.3% hike in filled jobs
Filled jobs went up in November 2024 to mark the first increase since March, according to the latest data from Stats NZ.
Seasonally adjusted filled jobs climbed by 0.3%, or 5,980 jobs, to reach 2.36 million for the month of November 2024.
Annually, however, filled jobs were down by 29,895 (1.2%) compared to the same month in 2023, according to the data.
Filled jobs changes for men and women also recorded a decline annually, with a 2.1% drop (24,936 jobs) for men and a 1.2% (14,187 jobs) dip for women.
By industry, the largest changes in the number of filled jobs were in the administrative and support services (-6.6%) and the construction industry (-5.8%).
Only the healthcare and social assistance industry logged an increase in filled jobs, with 2.9%. The full list of changes includes:
Meanwhile, all regions in New Zealand also recorded a drop in the number of filled jobs compared with November 2023, according to the report. The biggest decline was recorded in Wellington, with a 1.9% drop (4,921). Others logged:
Filled jobs refer to the total number of jobs at a particular business location. They include full-time workers, part-time workers, and working proprietors, according to Figure NZ.
"If an individual is employed at more than one location, then that person will be counted at each location. Filled jobs are a count of jobs, not people," it said.
