History of Adecco

Adecco was launched in New Zealand in 1988, bringing global expertise in workforce solutions to local industries. Its origins trace back to 1957 when Henri Lavanchy founded Adia SA in Switzerland, focusing on temporary staffing. In 1964, Philippe Foriel-Destezet launched Ecco in France, which grew into a major staffing provider.

These two companies merged in 1996, forming Adecco, a global leader in staffing with over 2,500 branches worldwide. By expanding into New Zealand and beyond, the firm delivered tailored recruitment, staffing, and HR consulting to various industries. Strategic acquisitions, including TAD Resources International in 1997, strengthened their capabilities in technical staffing, establishing it as a dominant global force by 2010.
