Workers at chip manufacturing facilities show symptoms of radiation
Samsung Electronics Co is under investigation by South Korean authorities after two employees experienced X-ray exposure to their hands this week, according to reports.
South Korea's Nuclear Safety and Security Commission said it sent officials to one of the tech giant's chip manufacturing facilities for probe and suspended the radiation generator on the line.
The measures come after two employees showed symptoms of radiation exposure on their hands after the body parts were exposed to X-ray on Monday, South Korea's Yonhap News Agency reported.
The employees, who are now hospitalised, had swollen fingers and red spots on their hands, according to the Nuclear Safety and Security Commission.
The commission said the blood tests done on the workers produced a normal result. A chromosome abnormality test was also carried out on the employees.
In a statement, Samsung told the media that the employees are ongoing follow-up tests in the hospital, and the company would fully support their treatment and recovery.
It is also committed its support to the ongoing investigation.
"The company will cooperate with all relevant authorities and ensure recurrences are prevented," Samsung said as quoted by CNBC.
