Wells Fargo 'deeply saddened by tragic loss'
A Wells Fargo employee was found dead at her desk in the bank's Tempe corporate office, four days after clocking in for work, according to police.
The deceased, identified as 60-year-old Denise Prudhomme, was discovered on August 20, after building security alerted authorities, 12News reported.
Prudhomme last scanned into the building on August 16 at 7 a.m., but it wasn't until August 20 that a colleague found her unresponsive at her desk in a cubicle, located on the third floor and away from the main aisle. Tempe Police confirmed her death upon arrival.
"It's really heartbreaking and I'm thinking, 'What if I were just sitting there?'" an anonymous employee told 12News. "No one would check on me?"
According to the report, while most employees at the Wells Fargo office work remotely, the building is monitored by 24/7 security. Some workers mentioned noticing a foul odour in the area but assumed it was related to plumbing issues.
Tempe Police have stated there is no evidence of foul play. The Tempe Police Criminal Investigations Bureau is working closely with the Maricopa County medical examiner to determine the exact cause of death.
Wells Fargo issued a statement to 12News expressing their sorrow over the incident.
"We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of our colleague at our Tempe office. Our thoughts and prayers are with their family and loved ones during this difficult time," the statement read.
