Remote work job openings go up in Singapore amid strong demand

Opportunities for remote work in Singapore went up in May amid high demand among jobseekers, according to new research.

The latest data from Indeed revealed 8.5% of job postings in May explicitly mentioned key terms such as "work from home" or "remote work" in their job descriptions.

According to Indeed, this is 1.6 percentage points higher than the post-pandemic low recorded in November 2022.

The growing number of remote work opportunities come amid consistent demand from jobseekers, Indeed said, as "remote work" and similar phrases were among the most popular search terms across Singapore outside generic terms such as "full-time" or "part-time."

Job postings dip

Overall, job postings dipped slightly in May after falling by just 0.1% from a month ago, and 8.8% than a year ago.

Despite this fall, Indeed's APAC Senior Economist Callam Pickering said job creation in Singapore remains stable.

"While job postings in May were broadly flat, and lower over the year, Singapore's job market is proving to be resilient in the face of a challenging economic environment," Pickering said in a statement.

"Job posting volumes are still elevated across every sector, providing ample opportunity for jobseekers regardless of experience or education."

Occupations that reported higher job postings include architecture (27.9%), medical technician (13.7%), as well as childcare (10.9%), according to Indeed.

Human resources roles saw a -12% decline in job postings, joining occupations such as physicians and surgeons (-11.7%) and electrical engineering (-12%) in decreasing job openings.

"Overall, unemployment in Singapore remains low and skill shortages remain common. Recruitment is perhaps easier than it was a year ago but still remains quite challenging by historical standards," Pickering said.
