SDC, NTUC LearningHub to upskill about 15,000 Sentosa employees

The Sentosa Development Corporation (SDC) and the NTUC LearningHub (NTUC LHUB) have joined hands to upskill approximately 15,000 employees across Singapore's Sentosa Island over the next three years.

Representatives from both organisations, along with Resorts World Sentosa (RWS), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the massive upskilling programme last July 8.

Under the MoU, a new learning framework called the One Sentosa Transformation and Equipping Platform (1-STEP) will be established to accelerate Sentosa's transformation as a tourism destination.

The programme will also offer employees across almost 200 establishments in the island a range of tourism-specific, new-to-Singapore programmes.

"1-STEP represents SDC and our Island Partners' commitment to accelerate the transformation of Sentosa's 15,000-strong workforce towards staying relevant for the future," said Thien Kwee Eng, SDC chief executive officer, in a statement.

"Through this collaboration with NTUC LHUB, we aim to enhance the equipping of our workforce with the necessary skills to provide exceptional experiences to our guests, increase productivity of our businesses, and bolster the tourism value proposition of Sentosa and Singapore."

Jeremy Ong, NTUC LHUB chief executive officer, said they are honoured to play a significant role in empowering the Sentosa workforce and contributing to the development of the tourism sector.

"We are committed to fostering an ecosystem that not only enhances the skills and employability of tourism professionals but also establishes new standards of excellence for Sentosa to enhance its visitor experience," Ong said in a statement.

Enriching tourism professionals

The MoU also received the support of RWS, a key Island Partner whose workforce makes up 70% of workers in Sentosa.

RWS chief executive officer Tan Hee Teck said the customised training under 1-STEP will benefit their teams across different roles.

"By equipping our team members with future-ready tourism capabilities, we aim to enrich their roles and foster their growth as tourism professionals, as we continually create new and exciting experiences to delight our guest," Tan said in a statement.
