Learning and development has long been cited as a critical factor in employee retention - but what strategies should employers implement to foster an effective culture of learning at their organisation?

EZRA recently published a paper that suggested the implementation of "formalised" L&D opportunities such as training or coaching to foster a culture of learning at work.

"Coaching in particular is a great way to support an employee's development," the paper reads.

"Whereas some training courses are group-based, having to use a broad brush to attempt to fulfil everyone's needs, coaching is a personalised and tailored learning experience, where each individual can focus on the topics that they most need or want, with help from a trained coach."

According to EZRA's paper, coaching is the "perfect way" to foster a learning culture that retains top talent and trains them for leadership.

"Overall, coaching leaves employees feeling more confident, more productive, and more valued by their organisation," it added.

Boosting retention in the workplace

EZRA noted that providing opportunities to grow and learn can help show that employees are valued in the workplace. But it's not the only retention strategy available for employers.

"These are just a handful of different methods and topics to focus on when designing your retention strategy, and each should become part of your company culture if you want to retain your staff from the moment they join," EZRA advised.

"Keep in mind that there may be other factors that are specifically important to your employees, and take them into account during your strategy planning," it said.
