Majority of Singaporeans want more support, guidance amid changes at work: report

More than three in four employees in Singapore are seeking more guidance and support as more than half recognise that relying on experience alone is not enough to achieve career success, according to a new report from LinkedIn.

The report, which surveyed 2,017 professionals in Singapore, found that 79% are looking for more professional help than ever before.

This comes as 56% of the respondents believe that experience alone is not enough, and 42% say that continuous learning is critical in order to get ahead.

"Employees are increasingly seeking support and hands-on learning opportunities as they adapt to new tools and technologies," said Feon Ang, APAC managing director at LinkedIn, in a statement.

Finding support from leaders

The problem, however, is that half of the respondents don't know where to begin in their journey to move forward in their careers.

According to the findings, 31% of employees also find it challenging to keep up with the demand for upskilling and reskilling.

Another 39% of professionals also don't feel like they can rely on their manager to help them through periods of change in their job, and 36% said they don't know what career advice to trust.

In fact, only 54% of the respondents believe their company's leadership is helping them keep pace with workplace changes, according to the report.

Ang stressed that leadership is important in supporting employees as they navigate through various changes, including technological changes, in the workplace.

"Leaders play a critical role in this transition by providing clarity, investing in upskilling initiatives, and fostering a culture of continuous learning that empowers teams to embrace change with a growth mindset," Ang said.
