4 in 10 business leaders having trouble finding AI talent: survey

How many Singapore organisations are using generative AI in HR?

More than half of organisations in Singapore are using artificial intelligence in their HR practices, with the implementation of AI tools being well-received.

This is according to a Deel survey, which polled 250 business leaders of enterprises with more 1,000 employees.

It found that 54% of organisations in Singapore are adopting AI in their HR function, with its capability to enhance accuracy and reducing human error being well-received (62%).

Generative AI has emerged as the most-adopted tool in the HR function, as cited by 64% of the respondents. Other AI tools used by organisations for HR include:

  • AI recruitment and screening (63%)
  • Virtual assistants and chatbots (60%)

The widespread use of AI tools in the HR function comes as 98% of organisations have already or are considering AI integration to enhance business and attract talent, according to the report.

Shortage of AI talent

It also comes amid a shortage of talent with AI skills in Singapore, a scarcity felt across the world as employers pursue bigger AI ambitions.

Deel's findings revealed that 39% of business leaders still face difficulties in finding the right AI talent, with the top challenges being:

  • High salary expectations (62%)
  • Accurately assessing a candidate's AI capabilities (62%)
  • Lack of qualified candidates in the local job market (59%)

According to Deel, 49% of employers are open to hiring AI talent from both Singapore and abroad to fill in their vacancies.

Karen Ng, Regional Head of Expansion & Market Lead Singapore, Hong Kong, ASEAN, India, said global hiring will help companies find highly specialised skills, including AI talent.

"This alleviates the pressure of local skill shortages while ensuring Singapore has the right expertise needed to stay competitive at a global level," Ng said in a statement.

"To do so, it requires collective effort between public and private sectors to ensure smooth hiring and managing talent locally and internationally."
