Former delivery rider sent to jail for sending sexually threatening emails to employer

A former delivery rider is getting jail time for sending sexually threatening emails to his former colleagues and for a cheating attempt in another workplace, according to reports.

Tommy Soh Han Xuen was sentenced to six months and six weeks of jail time, in addition to an enhanced sentence of 48 days’ imprisonment because he reoffended while out on remission, Channel News Asia reported.

Soh was penalised after he sent in February 2022 emails to his former employer where he threatened to "brutally rape" all female staff of the organisation.

A customer service manager from the organisation also reported receiving an email that threatened to "strip (her) naked."

Police reports were filed after the organisation received the emails, according to the CNA report.

Workplace theft

Soh was a former delivery rider for the organisation who was fired in 2020 after he was caught stealing mobile phones that belonged to a vendor of the company.

He told the court that he was at home at "angry with himself over his personal problems" when he sent the threatening emails nearly two years after he was fired.

He was also not happy that the company did not pay his outstanding wages of about S$300 when he got fired.

But the prosecution told the court that Soh's anger over his salary was baseless, given that the company had to pay the vendor for the stolen mobile phones.

Soh's emails were also "graphic and descriptive," according to the prosecution, which also brought a similar offence by Soh in 2020.

Cheating offence

Meanwhile, the court also penalised Soh over a separate cheating offence in 2022, where he took a picture of the credit cards of two guests at his workplace at that time. Using the photos, Soh attempted to buy two pairs of shoes that cost about S$450 and S$260. Both transactions were cancelled in time.

Soh pleaded guilty to three charges of making insulting communication intended to cause alarm, intending to insult another person's modesty, and attempted cheating, according to the CNA report.

He also told the court that his offences were related to a gambling problem and asked for a lighter sentence. According to Soh, he plans to enter a polytechnic after finishing his sentence to "restart" his life.

Judge Wong considered his guilty plea, as well as five other charges during his sentencing.
