Work-life balance pushing Singaporeans to find new employers

The desire for work-life balance is driving more Singaporeans to find a new employer this year, according to Randstad's latest Employer Brand Research.

The report, which polled 2,602 Singapore-based employees and jobseekers, found that 35% are planning to switch jobs this year, five per cent higher than the same period a year ago.

The top driver for job switching is work-life balance, which is cited by 41% of respondents who are planning to find a new employer, according to the report.

"What's pushing employees away is the relentless demand for their time and energy, often at the expense of their personal lives, mental health and career goals," said David Blasco, Country Director of Permanent Recruitment at Randstad Singapore, in a statement.

"Work does not encompass our lives, and more individuals are relying on their employers to help them achieve the growth and work-life balance they crave."

Attracting new employees

Singapore's jobseekers and departing employees are turning to job boards or job search engines (62%) to find new employment opportunities.

Nearly half are also going to LinkedIn (47%), recruitment agencies (47%), as well as public employment services (42%).

As more Singaporeans are on the lookout for new opportunities, Blasco reminded employers seeking to attract talent that they can provide the "necessary human touch" that will help professionals navigate the employment landscape.

"Many of the factors that talent looks for these days - like positive work environment and fast-track growth - goes beyond job advertisements," Blasco said.

"Recruiters have a distinct ability to delve deeper into these important factors, interpret employer values, and communicate them to talent who share the same values. It's this tailored approach, not just algorithms, that sets us apart."
