Hiring demand for HR professionals sees steep decline

The Monster Employment Index shows a hiring slump for HR in Singapore as online recruitment posts its lowest number yet

Online hiring activity for the HR and admin professions have seen an annual decline across the region but in its latest report, the Monster Employment Index (MEI) reported that Singapore has seen the steepest decline at -12%.

“When comparing online hiring activity data between September 2015 and September 2016, activity has decreased year-on-year in all three markets monitored by the MEI,” said the report.

“In Singapore, the demand for HR talent has witnessed a steady decline over recent months, with an annual drop of -12% registered for September – the lowest year-on-year drop of the three markets.”

The three markets they pertain to are Singapore, the Philippines, and Malaysia.

“With overall hiring intentions witnessing decline in all three markets, it is not uncommon to see the equal slowdown in e-recruitment of HR & Admin professionals,” said Sanjay Modi, managing director at Monster.com – APAC and Middle East.

“This is relatively typical of the time of year, heading into the final quarter of 2016 when hiring intentions slow down and employers refrain from making many big talent decisions until the New Year.”

Other sectors are faring better with the IT, telecom, and BPO industries showing the steepest growth at 9% while jobs in software, hardware, and telecommunications are the greatest in demand at 18%.
