Employers asked to give feedback for Budget 2016

The government has called upon businesses to offer suggestions for this year’s Budget

The Ministry of Finance (MOF) has invited all Singaporeans – including HR teams and employers – to provide feedback in the lead up to Budget 2016.

“Individuals, households, and businesses are welcome to provide feedback on issues such as how we can best develop Singaporeans and help local companies grow through innovation and internationalisation,” MOF said in a press release.

Those who want to offer their views can do so through REACH’s pre-budget microsite. Feedback will be taken from 1 to 26 February.

There are currently two topic threads on the site which are relevant to HRDs:
  • What can businesses and employees can do to drive productivity?
  • How can Singaporean candidates be matched to the right jobs?
Both MOF and REACH will also host three “listening points” across Singapore where HR can offer suggestions in person.

Date and time Venue
17 February (11.30am to 2.30pm) Raffles Place Park, outside Chevron House (30 Raffles Place)
20 February (11.00am to 7.00pm) Toa Payoh Hub Mall, opposite Vincent Watch (#01-31, 500 Loreng 6 Toa Payoh)
21 February (9.00am to 5.00pm) Yew Tee Square, outside McDonald’s (#02-220, Block 624 Choa Chu Kang Street 62)

HRDs can also join in the discussion through a Pre-Budget Conversation held on 17 February from 6.00pm to 9.30pm. Registration can be completed via the REACH website.

This conversation will be attended by Senior Minister of State for Finance and Law Indranee Rajah and REACH chairman Sam Tan.

There will also be a Live Q&A Session on REACH’s Facebook page on 22 February from 12.30pm to 2.00pm. This will be hosted by Liang Eng Hwa, the chairman of the Government Parliamentary Committee (GPC) for Finance and Trade and Industry, as well as GPC member, Sun Xueling.

Budget 2015 contained a number of positive initiatives for HR, including SkillsFuture credits and the Earn and Learn program. This year’s Budget – to be released on 24 March – will hopefully contain a number of new government strategies aimed at further supporting businesses amidst Singapore’s current labour environment.
