Younger generations also more proficient, optimistic about using AI at work
Younger employees in the United States are leading the adoption of artificial intelligence in workplaces, according to the latest Randstad Workmonitor Pulse survey.
The poll, which covered over 800 American employees, revealed that 34% of Gen Zs and 25% of Millennials are using AI for work-related tasks and are demonstrating weekly engagement.
On the other hand, 56% of Boomers and 42% of Gen X employees have admitted to never using AI at work.
When it comes to using AI tools, the report found that younger employees are also showing higher proficiency in using them:
- Millennials (50%)
- Gen Zs (45%)
- Gen X (39%)
- Boomers (19%)
The higher usage and proficiency of AI among younger employees come as they also believe that the tech makes jobs more interesting, according to the report.

Optimism about AI
Meanwhile, Millennials (55%) and Gen Zs (49%) are also more optimistic that AI can enhance workplace fairness, especially in recruitment.

"This survey highlights a notable generational divide in AI adoption and optimism within U.S. workplaces," the report said. "While younger generations are eager to embrace AI, older generations exhibit reluctance."
Marc-Etienne Julien, chief executive of Randstad North America, said understanding AI's impact across different generations will allow organisations to create more inclusive and empowering work environments.
"The age of AI in the workplace is upon us, and Randstad's latest findings reveal the exciting potential and challenges this new era brings," Julien said in a statement.
"However, we must navigate its adoption with care, ensuring all generations not only adapt but also have the training needed to harness the benefits AI brings to their roles."
