Gildan launches volunteer month for global employees

Apparel manufacturer Gildan has launched its inaugural Global Employee Volunteer Month this August. Based in Montreal, Gildan has roughly 44,000 employees worldwide.

In a media release, Gildan said the initiative will see its employees volunteer their time to different charitable initiatives focused on education, the protection of natural resources, and other areas aligned with its Community Engagement Policy.

The company’s human resources and communications teams worldwide have joined hands to "plan and communicate" a string of events and activities that employees can choose from, according to the manufacturer.

It said the initiative seeks to support local communities, reinforce the importance of philanthropy, and bolster a sense of togetherness and a culture of giving within the organisation.

The initiative is also part of the manufacturer's long investment in meaningful projects and the company's Next Generation ESG strategy.

““Gildan has long invested in meaningful projects and hands-on support to address local needs,” said Claudia Sandoval, Vice-President of Global Social Compliance and Environmental Affairs at Gildan, in a statement.

"In a spirited effort to enhance our philanthropic culture, our employee Volunteer Month serves as a powerful catalyst to bring our people together and uphold Gildan's values and commitments.”

"We look forward to seeing the collective impact our employees make around the word."

The company says the majority of its community investment resources go towards the following focus areas: quality education, good health & well-being, and resources protection, in alignment with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
