Read a quick over-cap of what this morning had to offer…

Professionals from all walks of HR were welcomed to the HR Leaders Summit this morning with engaging opening addresses from KPMG and Human Resources Director. Following that, industry leaders shared invaluable insight in engaging presentations:

What motivates me: put your passion to work

Chester Elton has gained global recognition for co-authoring the bestselling books ‘The Carrot Principle’ and ‘All In’. At 9 a.m, he took to the stage to share his extensively tested method of identifying employees’ unique core motivators and gave attendees straight-forward yet remarkably effective job-sculpting strategies that, he said, would help people accomplish more.

"Are you all in?" Elton asked delegates. "Are your people all in? If you can't answer 'yes' to that question, your people can't answer 'yes' to that question."

Attendees took away skills that have been shown to increase levels of employee motivation, engagement and productivity in companies such as American Express, Proctor & Gamble and AT&T.

Beyond the ‘high potential’ model – a new approach to talent management

KPMG’s Laura Croucher armed attendees with an arsenal of new tactics to ensure they’re well equipped to win the ongoing war for talent. She urged leaders to trade their one-size-fits-all mentality in for a more finely-tuned approach and warned that if they failed to do so, they’d remain stuck in an endless battle of pursuing and retaining a high-performing few, all the while ignoring the more important needs of the whole.

Croucher discussed the need for HR professionals to take a more holistic approach to talent risk, shifting from the narrow focus of ‘high potentials’ to a more enterprise-wide approach encompassing every employee at every level of the organization.

Tomorrow, HR guru David Ulrich will discuss the evolution of HR from the outside in and Canadian Tire’s Jackie Goldman will share the story behind the company’s internal employment brand revival.
